A Great Day for a Drive Sunday 22nd June turned out to be one of those ideal British summer mornings—clear skies, mild temperatures, and perfect weather for a day out in classic cars. By mid-morning, the yard outside Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead was buzzing with 36 women and 17 beautiful classics, all ready for Ladies Drive It Day 2025. Picture the scene. There was a relaxed atmosphere as everyone chatted, sipped coffee, and got ready for the road. A special shoutout goes to Michelle McDonough and her family at Hardy Engineering for organising everything so smoothly. Pulling together a classic car event isn’t easy, and they made it look effortless. On the Road Engines fired up just after 10 a.m., and the convoy rolled out of Leatherhead with smiles and waves from passers-by. The line-up of cars made for quite a sight as they cruised through the scenic Surrey countryside. Start your Engines! Getting ready to go Starting the road trip in style! The route took us along quiet lanes shaded by trees and past open fields. Drivers kept a relaxed pace, enjoying the scenery and the shared love of classic motoring. Onlookers smiled as we drove past, engines roaring, turning heads with the unmistakable sound and sight of classic cars in motion. Some waved, others pulled out their phones, and a few simply nodded in appreciation as we rolled by. Unforgettable country driving Convoy crossing Afternoon Tea at the Royal Automobile Club The drive ended at The Royal Automobile Club in Epsom, where the cars were lined up on Cedar Lawn for a well-earned afternoon tea. The setting was elegant, with white tablecloths and silver teapots, and it was a great chance for everyone to catch up, swap stories, and talk car care tips. Red and white Austin Healey 100M gleams in the summer sun Cheeky red Sprite Conversations covered everything from sourcing spare parts to polishing techniques. The classic Devon vs Cornish cream tea debate even made an appearance—politely, of course. Why Events Like This Matter Events like this help welcome a wider mix of people into the classic car scene—giving newcomers an easy entry point and creating more ways for fans and enthusiasts to connect, share knowledge, and grow the community. It’s not about proving anything—it’s just about enjoying the drive, the cars, and the people who make the community special. A Massive Thank‑You A big thank you again to Michelle and her family at at Hardy Engineering. Organising a successful event takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work, and they pulled it off brilliantly. It was a day full of laughter, great cars, and good company.
