Big Healey
Part no:
LUB185
Product name:
Alpine Antifreeze Blue Concentrate - 1 litre
Additional information:
Description:

What is Alpine Blue Antifreeze Concentrate?

Alpine Blue Antifreeze Concentrate is a monoethylene glycol (MEG) based coolant using Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT). Supplied as a concentrate, it must be diluted with distilled or deionised water before use. It provides frost protection and corrosion resistance for classic Austin Healey cooling systems.

This formulation exceeds BS 6580:2010 and is nitrate, amine and phosphate free.

Key Benefits

  • Protects steel, cast iron, aluminium, solder and yellow metals
  • Suitable for traditional copper and brass radiators
  • Up to 2 years corrosion protection
  • Freeze protection dependent on dilution ratio
  • Compatible with classic Healey gasket materials and hoses
  • Meets BS 6580:2010 specification

Will it fit my Austin Healey?

Yes. This coolant is suitable for all Austin Healey models including BN1–BJ8 and Sprite models, provided it is mixed correctly.

Designed for conventional cooling systems using cast iron blocks, aluminium cylinder heads and copper/brass radiators. Suitable for both four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines.

Not pre-mixed. Dilution is required before filling.

What’s Included

  • 1 litre Alpine Blue Antifreeze Concentrate

Technical Details

  • Base: Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)
  • Technology: IAT (Inorganic Acid Technology)
  • Specification: BS 6580:2010
  • NAP free (nitrate, amine, phosphate free)
  • Typical 50% mix freeze protection: approx. −40°C
  • Maximum corrosion protection period: up to 2 years

Typical dilution guide:

  • 33% concentration: approx. −20°C
  • 50% concentration: approx. −40°C
  • 67% concentration: approx. −70°C

Installation & Setup

Drain and flush the cooling system before refilling. Always mix with distilled or deionised water prior to filling.

Check hoses, thermostat and pressure cap during refill. Replace coolant every two years to maintain corrosion protection.

Do not mix with OAT or long-life coolants.

Why Choose This Coolant?

For owners running traditional copper/brass radiators and period-style cooling systems, IAT blue antifreeze remains the correct type. It offers predictable protection and is easily serviceable at regular intervals.

For long-life sealed systems, see 4life 10 Year Coolant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it be mixed with red or OAT coolant?
No. Mixing different coolant technologies can reduce corrosion protection and cause sludge formation.
How often should it be changed?
Typically every 2 years to maintain corrosion protection in classic cooling systems.
Is it safe for aluminium cylinder heads?
Yes. It is formulated to protect aluminium, cast iron and mixed-metal cooling systems when used at the correct dilution.
Is this pre-mixed and ready to use?
No. This is a concentrate and must be diluted with distilled or deionised water before use.
