Description Genuine 15,000 miles from new. This is probably the lowest genuine mileage Sprite in the UK. Known and documented history from new. All matching numbers. Supplied new by Cogger and Hawkins of Aylesbury in November 1958 to The first owner was a garage proprietor and rally organiser back in the early 1960’s. He had several DHMC upgrades fitted including the Shorrocks super charger. 120 mph speedo. DHMC tall sidescreen hardtop with hand operated spot light. Adjustable Armstrong shock absorbers. It also has an original and extremely rare Supercharger bonnet badge. He used this for some club rally’s and autotests then it was on display in his showroom for many years. I’m the fourth owner and carried out a sympathetic preservation restoration on this car over the last five years. It was stripped to a bare shell and had a complete floor professionally fitted due to some corrosion. All other panels are excellent including the original sills. All brakes, suspension etc was cleaned, inspected, shot blasted and powercoated then refitted. Most parts are the originals from the factory including the original steel brake pipes! Wishbones are original and have never been drilled for an anti roll bar. Radiator is original with it’s original ‘Morris Motors’ makers plaque. Obviously new brake cylinders were fitted and master cylinder rebuild. Engine was fully rebuilt and is bored to 998cc with ARP bolts by Market Square Garage Petworth. Gearbox is original and excellent. Rear axle is original and excellent. Interior was fully retrimmed with the correct vinyl and a new set of carpets. A new Autosparks cloth covered wiring loom was fitted for safety reasons. Although inside, engine bay and underneath is restored and immaculate the exterior paint is from its one and only repaint in 1979 and has 20 years of dust from storage. I deliberately left this as there’s plenty or fully restored cars around but not many that are so original as this car and it’s certainly gets attention so much so it won it’s category against 30 other cars at Hampton Court Palace Concours in 2024 due to its high standard of preservation rather than over restoration. I have over 100 photos of the work carried out in the large history file. I need to slim down my collection of cars so it’s reluctantly offered for sale at a very fair price of £27,500. please ask for more photos or to view at my home near Abingdon. |
